Summer 2006

President's Corner:  The Way of Community
by Marilyn Parente, ENFJ

Wondering why I've chosen this photo?  Read the Spring 2006 entry!

Greetings all!

From an ENFJ point of view, what’s happened over the past 24 hours is the way I envisioned this whole eChapter thing working.

Lori, meet Gill.  Gill, meet Lori.

Sounds simple enough, yes?

Our June 8th program, wonderfully presented by Elizabeth Hirsh and her sister Katherine, our VP of Festivities, was fraught with technical difficulties.  Our plans to allow everyone to introduce themselves at the beginning of the meeting had to be shelved pretty quickly when too much feedback got in the way.  Once we started the question and answer portion, the briefly-banished gremlins returned with a vengeance, knocking us all into a universe where the most polite question I asked was, “Can you hear me now?”  The other things I uttered are best not posted on a public website <big grin>

Despite the technical glitches, Lori from Indiana was one of the few who was able to pose a question.  Although it was a bit beyond the domain of the presentation (it dealt with an upcoming workshop offered by someone not participating in our program), our presenters handled it with aplomb.  While not able to comment directly on the workshop in question, Katherine was able to provide high-level information about the material for which the other presenter is best known.

Not long afterwards, Gill from London e-mailed me with information about the workshop in question with a request to pass it along to Lori.

If that’s not what Sidney had in mind when she envisioned this whole thing happening, I don’t know what is.

If you were one of those affected during the call, your response might be, “But I could never get back into the program,” or other comments focused on the technical malfunction.  Me?  I’m grateful for the gifts of the big picture and how two people in particular were served yesterday … that, and for the members of the eChapter Board who are right this minute looking into how to better address the technical issues going forward.

That’s why I’m here.  Glad you’re here too!

Spring 2006

President's Corner:  Welcome to the APT eChapter!
by Marilyn Parente, ENFJ

If there was ever a moment that our chapter became "real" to me, it was Friday, March 17, during our monthly Board meeting.  Listening to the plans for upcoming events, hearing names tossed about casually that I only know from the covers of books in my personal library - it really became a defining moment of what it feels like to be a member of a local APT chapter.

Living in Central Jersey (that's Jersey USA for our friends in the UK), I don't have an on-ground chapter that's close enough for regular participation.  I've received invitations from time to time from other chapters and regions (thanks, in particular, go out to the Southern Connecticut chapter, even if your events are about 3 hours away), but it's never been terribly convenient to be part of a type community ... that is, until Sidney Craig Courtice came along.

Sidney was part of a success story in Canada with virtually connecting APT members there, and had a vision for those of us whose hearts are willing but geography is weak.  She rounded up a great crew of folks to play with the idea of an online chapter, nearly all of which have or had experience in running traditional APT chapters.

Finally, I have access to programs and events without having to deal with the New Jersey Turnpike or Garden State Parkway -- a wonderful thing, to be sure.  For an ENFJ like me, I have visions of how our eChapter will grow into an eCommunity, and am thrilled to have you as a part of our new adventure.

Drop me a line at president@APT-eChapter.org and let us know what the eChapter will mean to you.  We'll post your responses in the next edition of our newsletter.

Oh, before I forget, I promised to tell you why I chose the photo above -- having an eChapter means you can attend meetings and events even when you're on vacation.  It was VERY pleasant being on our February Board conference call while visiting the Florida West Coast, trust me <big grin>

Have some fun today!
